The palliative ward serves as the foundation for the treatment of patients with incurable diseases of all categories, who generally prefer to spend as much of their remaining time as possible at home. On the homelike ward, nurses, doctors, psychologists, physiotherapists, counselors and welfare personnel work closely together towards the stabilization of patients in the event that outpatient treatment has become impossible. This involves not only the treatment of pain but also counseling patients’ loved-ones, organizing continued care and dealing with the psychological burden. The aim is to offer appropriate accommodation during the stay on the ward along with the highest possible quality of life from the point of the forthcoming transfer to the home environment.
