Gynecology

In Carinthia’s large center for operative gynecology, all conventional operations, including all cancer operations and keyhole surgery, are carried out to the highest (teaching) level. The treatment of benign and malignant breast disorders, applying state of the art operating methods (plastic surgery to recreate the breast after amputation), form part of our standard activities.

The treatment of cross-organ endometriosis (hypertrophy of the mucous membrane beyond the uterus and ovaries with infection of the peritoneum, intestine and urinary tracts) using keyhole surgery is the focal point of the department’s operating activities. Scientific reports, contributions to international congresses and live operations that are transmitted abroad attract patients from Austria and abroad to our department as a center of excellence for operational treatment of their endometrioses.

The department also plays a leading role in the field of cancer surgery in Austria, its role enhanced by the increasing use of keyhole surgery in the treatment of cancerous diseases. Besides cancer operations, the focus lies in the application of intensive diagnosis before the operation and individual care afterwards (chemotherapy, hormone therapy, radiation therapy together with the Radiation Department at Klagenfurt Regional Hospital). Close collaboration with the other departments, such as surgery, urology, radiology (X-rays) and the pathology and radiation departments of Klagenfurt Regional Hospital ensure the best possible treatment for patients.

Special outpatient departments serve to determine the best method of treatment for the patient, whether through an operation or conservative treatment.

Obstetrics

A very well trained team of doctors and nursing staff are dedicated to offering patients compassionate care.

As one of the Carinthia’s highest birth rate clinics, supporting women before, during and after giving birth is a main concern. Courses in birth preparation, acupuncture and gymnastics for pregnant women, and the monitoring of risk pregnancies, are routine matters. Here, the pregnant mothers and people becoming parents have enough opportunity to ask questions and seek advice.

Our obstetrics department works under the motto of “a family-focused birth combined with maximum safety”. The delivery rooms are individually equipped. Each room has a bathroom area with a tub and a toilet, a cozy relaxing chair for fathers-to-be or confidants, a gymnastics ball, a birth stool, aroma stones and plenty more, all guaranteeing an intimate atmosphere for the family.

You can also choose underwater delivery. If requested, complementary methods such as homeopathy, aromatherapy and hypnosis are also available. The presence of a gynecologist, anesthetist and a pediatrician around-the-clock offer the mother-to-be, as well as the child, the greatest possible security.

The childbed ward has well-equipped double or single rooms with changing stations and bath units for rooming in. We apply the principle of “integrative childbed”. This means that mother and child are cared for by a team of midwives, registered nurses, pediatric nurses, gynecologists and pediatricians using a holistic and family-friendly approach.

This encourages early mother-child bonding. In a comforting atmosphere, the family learns to handle the baby safely and independently. For questions regarding breast feeding, specially trained breastfeeding advisers offer advice around-the-clock. A children’s room is available for temporary child care.
