Orthopedic care in Carinthia has been optimized over the last few years. In 1992 the integration of the Special Orthopedics Clinic in Warmbad Villach into the Villach Regional Hospital led to an optimal cooperation.

The diagnostic and interdisciplinary capabilities at the Villach Regional Hospital, together with the treatment available at Special Orthopedics Clinic, provide maximum benefits for the patients.

The Orthopedic Department is divided into two areas. Warmbad-Villach, the conservative department, attends foremost to degenerative disorders of the spine, conservative therapy of arthrotic changes to the musculoskeletal system and pain management.

The Villach Regional Hospital with its surgery department performs the greatest number of orthopedic operations in all of Carinthia. The focus of operations lies in joint replacement, endoscopic operations, shoulder and leg surgery, as well as selected cases of rheumatic, athletic and tumor orthopedics.

The Special Orthopedics Clinic works in close cooperation with the Thermenhof Special Clinic for Rehabilitation (Director: chief physician Univ.-Doz. Dr. Johannes Kirchheimer, nursing care manager: Margareta Ulz-Bieler).  The main field of activity lies in the rehabilitation of patients following orthopedic, neurosurgical and casualty surgical operations by applying specific therapies. The two clinics are annexed, which proves to be very advantageous for the patients.

The Special Orthopedics Clinic rehabilitation provision is also accredited by the Joint Commission International according to special standards for rehabilitation institutions.
