Historical background |
1869 Anna Greibl donates her house to the community of Villach,
thus providing the origin for what would later become the
regional hospital.
1883 The municipal council decides to institute a public hospital.
1889 Construction of the hospital commences.
1890 The Kaiser-Franz-Joseph Hospital is declared a public health
institution.
1891 Formal opening of the public hospital “Kaiser Franz Joseph”
on 4 October.
1905 100 additional beds and a modern, larger operating theatre
added.
1917 Temporary closure of the hospital and the isolation clinic
because of lack of coal supplies.
1920 Villach transfers ownership of the hospital to the State of
Carinthia.
1946 Reconstruction of the hospital after heavy damage during
the war (hit by 68 bombs!).
1951 Opening of the new Surgical-Obstetric Department and
Paediatric Department.
1960 The Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincent de Paul leave Villach
Regional Hospital.
1975 The decision is made to extend Villach Regional Hospital
in three phases and to renovate existing buildings so that
these meet modern requirements.
1977 Phase I commenced.
1983 Phase II commenced.
1984 Phase I constructions opened.
1990 Phase II constructions opened.
1991 The State Government of Carinthia decides
on 24 September to commence phase III:
completion planned for 1997.
1993 Phase III commenced.
1997 Opening of the ultramodern helicopter landing site on
7 March.
1997 Opening of the renovated hospital chapel and the inner
courtyard at 10.30 am on 13 August
1997 Opening of the phase III constructions on 26 November.
